Amazon has reported in the past that they have been working on an ad-supported video streaming service and they have finally rolled out their ad-supported streaming service with almost 130 movies and 29 TV series. Amazon has plans to add a lot more content on the website in future. The video streaming service is basically a collaboration with IMDB and will be called IMDB Freedive. A lot of people rely on IMDB to choose which movie to watch. The IMDB ratings are the most trusted ratings in the global market now.
According to the chief executing officer, Col Needham:
“We will continue to enhance IMDB Freedive based on customer feedback and will soon make it available more widely including on IMDB’s leading mobile apps.”
Some of the popular TV shows which are available on IMDB Freedive are Heroes, Fringe, The Bachelor, Awakenings, Monster, A Few Good Men, and Memento. It is expected that in the future, the video streaming service will also be creating its own set of original content. With the introduction of this new streaming service, both the companies Amazon and IMDB have opened itself up for advertising revenues, which will help them to come in direct competition with Facebook and Google who are known to dominate this digital space.
Users will be able to watch and enjoy IMDB Freedive simply by visiting the website of IMDB or with the help of any Fire TV device. It is also expected that Amazon will also be looking into providing reliable Wi-Fi to areas where the connection of broadband is limited, but the mobile data is available supported by mesh networking.
According to a new patent, it is suggested that this company wants to build a mobile networking device which will be very different from the mobile hotspot but will allow a peer to peer connection all across multiple sets of nodes.
Amazon has introduced itself in the streaming services business with its launch of Amazon Prime Videos. The business model of the streaming service is very different. Amazon also partnered up with IMDB so that they are able to launch their device without having to think about any kind of backup. Amazon played a very important role here because they already had an experience of setting up their own streaming service in the past.
